First Part

Qesher Book Club:"Letters From Cuba"

Join acclaimed anthropologist and Pura Belpré Award-winning author Ruth Behar for a presentation on her inspiring story of a young Jewish girl who escapes Poland to start a new life in Cuba while working to rescue her family. Set in 1938, as conditions worsen for Jews in Poland, Esther joins her father in Cuba, writing letters to her sister, detailing both the kindness of the Cuban people and the spread of Nazism. Based on Behar's family history and research, this powerful story highlights resilience during dark times. Ruth will also discuss her writing process and plans for a Jewish literary journey to Cuba.
