About this talk

We continue our series of virtual tours in Lithuania. In my first talk, we presented Jewish Vilnius. Now, get ready for the country's second-largest city, Kaunas, as well as the towns of Kedainiai and Kalvarija

Kaunas (Kovno) was 60% Jewish at the end of the nineteenth century. Using video materials, I will guide you through its main Jewish heritage sites. We will visit the city center, the Jewish Quarter, the 9th Fort, Sugihara House, and much more.

After that, we will travel 50 kilometers north to Kedainiai (Keidan), one of the oldest cities in Lithuania, which was home to a very interesting Jewish community. The outstanding religious leader, Rav Eliyahu - the Vilna Gaon - lived here for a short time. During our virtual walk, we will explore the inside and outside of Kedainiai's center. Additionally, we will pay our respects to the Holocaust victims at the memorial site.

Finally, the shtetl of Kalvarija (Kalvarye), the smallest of these three towns, with its Jewish cemetery, synagogues, and old Talmud school building, is definitely a must-see on this journey.
